Riverside Animal Centre Wildlife Service logoabout us

wildlife Service

The origins of our charity date back to 1994, when our Founder first started caring for wildlife in his own home.

Since then, we have grown and evolved to become one of the busiest hospital and rescue centres in the UK, caring for almost 4000 sick, injured and orphaned native wild animals each year.

Our rescue service, covering the River Wandle boroughs and beyond, responds annually to hundreds of emergencies involving the larger and more dangerous species we encounter, such as foxes, badgers and deer.

Wildlife, Foxes and BadgersWe also specialize in waterbird rescue calls, and have access to a selection of vehicles, boats and life-saving equipment. The service is provided by key staff and an experienced corps of trained volunteers.

The many different species we admit range in size from tiny dormice to fully grown deer, all requiring individually tailored care and rearing regimes. Our professional clinical staff provide the round the clock nursing care that our patients rely on, whether it be hand feeding a baby hedgehog or placing a drip in an injured badger.

They are supported by a passionate team of volunteers, who give up their time to clean, feed and care for the animals, 7 days a week 365 days a year.

Wildlife, grey squirrelMany of the animals we see are commonly resident in the UK, but we increasingly deal with species that are in danger such as hedgehogs, barn owls and bats. We estimate that over 90% of our patients end up in need of help owing to problems created by man.

This is our motivation to continue in our efforts to redress the balance and we hope that we can count upon your support as we strive to give our wildlife that vital second chance.
