As one of the busiest wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres in the UK, we admit over 400 foxes every year, ranging from day old cubs to mature adults.
In the 13 years that we have been at our Beddington Park site, we have never known any of the 5000+ foxes we have cared for, nor any of the thousands of others that we provide advice and information on, to attack humans.
In a recent survey of 4000 Londoners, only 8.5% said they disliked foxs, with around 28.5% expressing no preference and the remaining 63% being very much in favour of having them sharing our environment. We do not believe that, were fox attacks to be a common or even infrequent occurrence that this high level of support would be maintained.
Many people derive pleasure from feeding their foxes and, whilst we would not wish to discourage people from giving a few titbits at a distance, we certainly would not advocate either trying to tame these animals or giving them so much food that they become dependant upon human hand-outs.
In the long run, this merely upsets those who do not enjoy the company of foxes and puts them in danger from those who would resort to cruelty and persecution.
We are privileged to live amongst all of our city's amazing wildlife and we are proud, as a charity, to be ready to respond around the clock when these animals fall foul of our cars, our dogs and the many other hazards that we create for them.
Please look around our website and consider the many ways in which you can help support our lifesaving work.
