London Wildcare Visitor Centre
The London Wildcare Visitor Centre is our next major project! It will become the first point of contact for anyone visiting our centre and will comprise a public reception and information area, a wildlife gift shop, an education/meeting area and a wildlife garden.
Utilising the space available in our barn together with a small newly acquired piece of land to the rear (the size of a large garden), we aim to create an ideal environment for schools to learn about wildlife care, ecology and conservation. In addition to providing access to some of our resident animals, we will also be able to provide the full range of science based activities normally associated with the curriculum from Foundation through to KS3 levels.
The new reception area will greatly improve the ‘front of house’ service to those bringing sick, injured and orphaned wild animals to us. Informative displays and CCTV links to parts of the working hospital will give visitors a greater idea of the scale of the operation and the time and effort which goes in to saving every life possible.
The gift shop will sell items ranging from hospital membership packs and cuddly toys through to wildlife essentials such as feeders, seeds and nest boxes. We will also encourage visitors to have a look around our wildlife garden (when not in use by schools) to gain ideas and inspiration for things that they can do with their own green space.
The project appeal will formally launch in the Autumn of 2009, once all of the design, planning and legal aspects are finalized, and we are aiming for project completion within 12-15 months. Watch this space for updates!
